"How To Defeat A More Powerful Enemy" by Apostle Of Hustle off of the 2009 album "Eats Darkness". This is a weird little record from this band that consists of members of Broken Social Scene and Feist. It's maybe half short sound collages and half songs. The songs aren't bad, but it's really disjointed due to the collages. It tries too hard I think, although this track and the track "Xerses" are winners.
"Black Waves" by Jason Boesel from the 2010 album "Hustler's Son". This is the first solo outing for the drummer from Rilo Kiley and Conor Oberst's Mystic Valley Band. This isn't too bad. Actually, it might be my favorite release of 2010 thus far (granted, it's pretty early). He sounds a bit like Townes Van Zandt, although obviously he's not anywhere near there as a songwriter. He brings in a ton of guests on this, most notably Benmont Tench from Petty's Heartbreakers. Yeah, this is a pretty good record. Sort of easy going country fried indie rock.
