In hindsight I think The Cure were the kings of the 80's (although they didn't really reach huge popularity until Disintegration came out in 1989). Just look at their output in the 80's
Albums released:
Boys Don't Cry 1980
Seventeen Seconds 1980
Faith 1981
Pornography 1982
Japanese Whispers 1983
The Top 1984
The Head on the Door 1984
Kiss me Kiss Me Kiss Me 1987
Disintegration 1989
So, that's nine albums in the decade culminating with the magnum opus "Disintegration." And I think they are all very good. Of course, you have to be into that type of music. But there's everything here: 80's romantic pop, dark synth dirges, gloomy atmospherics.
Yep. I was in high school when Survivor was riding high. I saw them at the Walter Sillers Coliseum in my hometown. It was rare for a popular act to appear in such a small town. I sang my heart out to "The Search is Over" and other ballads sung by Jamison. Ahhhh, memories!
