It was late in december the sky turned to snow. Al stewarts 1978 hit "Time passages" is especially perfect this time of the year. Its a great song & one of my many favorites of the late 70,s. His 1976 hits "The year of the cat" & "On the border" are awesome as well. http://www.last.fm/music/Al+Stewart/_/Time+Passages
I dont have much to add but only that I like his music too. I can't remember him ever touring anywhere I lived. I'd go see him if he were to play in my area. Year of the Cat brings back some good memories for me.
I knew someone who tended bar at the Holiday Inn where most of the performers stayed while performing at the now defunct Cleveland Coliseum.
She didn't know at first who Al Stewart was when he walked into the lounge, but after being formally introduced, she commented on Al Stewart being a man of small physical stature, but having a very pleasant and bright personality.
I clicked your link and the first song was "(You're On My Mind Like A) Song On The Radio". He's a very good lyricist compared to most of the other artists. He's not as prolific as the best songwriters of that era such as Springsteen, Costello, Sting, Seeger, etc..
I saw him in concert in the late '70's in Pittsburgh. He was touring to support The Year of the Cat. The concert was good, but too good. There were no rough edges...everything sounded so perfect it could have been his album playing, just a lot louder. If that makes any sense.
I've been a fan of Al's since the mid-70s. The first song I recall of his was Terminal Eyes, which is (somewhat) based on I Am The Walrus. He is a good writer--very perceptive lyrics. I especially like the two albums before Year of the cat--Modern Times and Past, Present & Future. Most of his albums deal with some aspect of history. I've learned a lot by listening to his songs--I had never heard of Nostrodomus until I heard Al's song.
I saw him in Minneapolis about 15 years ago (accompanied by Peter White)--an excellent show.
