It's been quite the process moving long-distance, but now I'm moved in (for the most part). I'm ready for phase two - making new acquaintances. I'm in my upper 50s and wondered if there are any fun activities or volunteer opportunities? I enjoy the waterfront, cooking, dining, sight-seeing, etc. I enjoy riding a bike, but have seen so many bike accidents since I've been here; I'm hesitant to ride now. I'd like to meet new people for the purpose of socializing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm a working stiff myself, not sure about clubs or social organizations here in town. 'm sure someone will post a reply for you, there is a much larger concentration of people on the original " Fort Myers/Cape Coral" section, the Naples area here is newer and not as many have jumped over. Might try to post your question in the fort myers area

If your after a volunteer position, I would check out the following website.
Naples, FL - Official Website - Volunteer Ambassador Program

Also you could join a club with people of the same interests as you.
Meetups near Naples, Florida - Meetup

I'm sure that you will be pleasantly surprised with just how easy it is to make friends with little effort.

Play bridge, mahjong, golf, quilt, photography, etc?

Condo, as I recall: social groups doing any of the above or other similar social group meets.

What part of 'Naples', as in zip code?

Agree on the bike riding: it's a nightmare and like Dodg'em cars. I orbit different developments staying 'inside' communities for the most part, and only hitting the streets to get to the 'next development'.

First, thank you all. Regarding looking in the Ft. Myers area, that is a little farther than I want to go, but thank you for the suggestion. To Sweetbottoms...your post reminded me of what I would tell people when I lived in the north, except our hibernation period was a little longer. Do people really hibernate here during the summer months?

I will check out the volunteer link. Motordavid...I didn't realize condo meant the activities you mentioned. While there is nothing wrong with them, I would hate to think that I was so stereotyped. But I did like the dodge 'em cars line. Made me chuckle.

I will also check out meetup. Thanks everyone. Hopefully, I'll leap this next hurdle

While there is nothing wrong with them, I would hate to think that I was so stereotyped. No disrespect intended. I just recall that you bought a condo... My point is that those activities are outlets to hobby and meet people of similar interests. For exp, there is an active bridge group at the Naples Bridge Center off Golden Gate, there is a Naples Quilt Guild, golf is everywhere and very inexpensive in the summer months, Volunteer programs, eg Naples Zoo, run for your COA Board, etc.,etc... Was simply suggesting activities to meet people that are available in one's community, (condos/houses/mansions), or external to one's living place community.

But I did like the dodge 'em cars line. Made me chuckle.

I will also check out meetup. Thanks everyone. Hopefully, I'll leap this next hurdle

This. Meetup.com is a GREAT site for meeting others. But it is Find Meetup groups near you - Meetup -- the url sweetbottoms provided won't work.

Not quite sure I'm ready for the Naples Quilt Guild or bridge, but I get your point. I think I'm looking for something more external from my community. It's eliminates the whole Peyton Place kind of thing, if you know what I mean.

I never thought to look at Meetup because I didn't think Naples was metropolitan enough in size to warrant that many types of Meetup activities, but boy was I surprised!
