My daughter thought she had powered sugar and went to make some lemon bars for tomorrow's get together - no sugar. Is there anywhere in Nashville where she can get powered sugar on Christmas? Here she would go to a 7-11, but I guess there are none in TN.

Thank you for any suggestions - and Merry Christmas.

Thank you vivelafrance for this info. Last night my daughter went online and found out how to convert regular sugar into powder sugar (she so happy I made her take her kitchen aid).

So this morning when I passed on your info, a light bulb went off and remembered that Walgreens/CVS is open on Xmas (just in case). I know others will appreciate this info.

Thank you again and hopefully 2010 will be a good year.

Please don't leave us guessing. How do you do it?

you just put regular sugar in the blender, turn it on. A couple seconds gets you castor sugar (super fine) and a little longer gets you powdered sugar. I use this trick all the time because I can't find castor sugar in TN and a lot of my baking recipes call for it.

I would bet that most of your "castor sugar" recipes are British. I spent one cold winter translating a British book into American and researching what certain ingredient equivalents were.

Thanks for your answer.

Thank you septimus for responding because my daughter told me what she did to get the powered sugar and the stages and it went in one ear out the other.

I have a better plan smartygurl - if I could get her to open a cafe we could help support her since she loves to cook. But since that is a wish I have and it is not her plan I will see about the recipe
