Many of us have seen the smaller clusters. I always thought they were some form of fish or frog eggs. I also never saw one of the larger ones like is pictured in this article:https://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/an...very-vancouver. According to that article: "The brain-shaped blob, composed of thousands or even millions of smaller creatures called zooids" Most of the colonies that I have seen are about the size of large frog eggs; with the exception that they were stuck to branches. Most of the frog eggs are just hidden in the algae on the bottom of small ponds.
I only started this thread because on my State Game Commission site they talked about several people inquiring about these blobs of goo they are encountering with the warmer water this year. So; are there more people seeing these?
I never saw any either. They're a very ancient life form. Fascinating.
I'm doing the masonry façade on my new house with flag stone dug up in the excavation: I cracked one open to get the right thickness and found an ancient fossilized horsetail plant staring out at me in relief. Pretty cool.

The large ones, the size of a raccoon, are really alien. Without knowing that they are a colony of smaller creatures; one could think they encountered a pod from "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers".
Years ago my mother found a perfect fossilized fish in a rock. She laid it down to finish her walk and then could not find it! I always held it against her!
