Where do you live now? I'm guessing you might be unfamiliar with Nebraska in general, vs. just the Lincoln area. Lincoln's metro area is around 300,000, and it's a college/university town--people come to study here from all over the world. In addition to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) and Southeast community college, Lincoln is also the home of Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Union college, plus a bunch of for profit schools as well. You see people with covered hair and muslim dress all the time--no big deal, and I promise, no one is going to stare. I've never seen a burqa in Lincoln, but I think people would be more curious about it vs. hostile. If you have questions, I'd call and talk to some of the Islamic organizations in the Lincoln area to see what their experiences have been. . I've attached links for you below. Good luck!

You had several replies to the thread you started 0n 04/15/2012 Muslim Family Moving To Omaha (Lincoln, Western: best cities, 2011, apartment) Lincoln is only fifty miles from Omaha but they have a lot in common.

Some people will stare and galk, some won't.
But that is the same with all people that look different than the majority around them.

Just curious--do you live in Lincoln? You can't go into Walmart or to the mall without seeing at least three or four women with head scarves every time you're there--it's pretty common around here. Why would anyone stare at something they see all the time?

I promise I wouldn't stare or gawk, but I swear I feel sorry for y'all in the summer time. That attire has got to be hot as heck! I've been perimenopausal for at least three years and have always wondered what women who have to dress like that for religious purposes do when they have hot flashes. Mine have been so severe at times that even in the winter time I've been indoors (once at a grocery store and another time at Nebraska Furniture Mart, and have had to strip down to my t-shirt or risk literally fainting.

How do muslim women deal with hot flashes? This might seem like a silly question but I promise you I'm just really curious?
