Does anyone have any thoughts on Ashland, NE? We are considering a move somewhere between Omaha and Lincoln and have zeroed in on Ashland. Specifically looking at the Iron Horse development or Lake Allure. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Default Ashland, Nebraska

Ashland rocks! I love this neat little community! A quaint downtown, some bars....even KENO if you like that sort of thing. The town is close to Omaha and Lincoln....yet offers a cozy small town experience.

I know Ashland very well. Very nice little town with low to no crime and good people. Lincoln or Omaha just 30 min drive. Interstate 80 just 3 miles to the east. The Iron Horse addition is upper middle income ($250,000-$1,000,000 homes) World class golf course. Be aware that Iron Horse has been fighting problems with leaking and cracking foundations because of the soil types. There is a possibility that this problem has been resolved with improved building methods because just recently we have noticed a huge increase in new home construction.

There is a new Walmart just a few miles away in Gretna Nebraska and withing the next year there is supposed to be large new shopping centers built in the general area.

Reality is Ashland is a "nice" town to live in when it comes to being centally located but it too has its flaws, don't let all the "flower smellers" fool you! There are drugs everywhere. The towns people aren't that "nice" to outsiders, it really takes a lot to get to know them. They come from "Old" families in the area with deep roots. Everyone knows everyone and is always in everyone's business! The city is one sided about their downtown, they will let you build if you have the right last name or connections. Tom Delong the city planner is a joke!!!!! The good thing Ashland has is the Casey's Gas Station and Bath N Splash the dog groomer! Everything is over priced at the Grocery Store and taxes are ridiculous. The water and sewer rates are unbelievably high!
There is a nice golf course and with that brings the "wanna be" its like they couldn't fit in in Lincoln or Omaha so they came to Ashland to be snots...its AMAZING!
The schools, go back to who you know and what your last name is. I don't have kids so I can't speak for the quality of the school system!
I suggest move to the area, live OUTSIDE of city LIMITS!
