I came across a 1983 notarized deed from the Sutro Tunnel Company, a Nevada Corp. (still in business) for "patented mineral rights situate, lying and being in the County of Storey, State of Nevada described as Lot 05-10, Unit SW 1/4 OF Survey 145, Plat of Grosh Consolidated Mining Company's Claim on the Grosh Lode, Gold Hill Mining District, Storey County, Nevada patented May1, 1879, USA Patent Number 3161".
Has anyone ever heard of this? Does it have any value? Have any idea where I can find out?

From this article it sounds like Comstock Mining already bought all the rights there that they wanted.

Mine outside historic Nevada town hits lucrative vein

What you have is a deed for part of a Patented mining claim. Patented mining claims mean you actually own the land, and as such you can do anything with it, ie build a cabin, house, dump etc, or mine it. Unpatented claims only mean you own mineral rights and the right to extract those minerals, and you do not own the land. The most important question is whether or not taxes have been paid, if unpaid since 1983 you have probably lost rights to the property, you need to check with county to see status, might be all you need to do is pay past dues taxes and late fees. If you've lost rights you need to check the foreclosure documents to see if it was properly foreclosed, if it was not, you might have a chance at redemption, but its going to cost a lot of money.

Patented claims can be quite valuable, or worthless......
