Anyone have some suggestions for a town that has good snowshoe trails (preferably trails in the woods and out of the wind rather than open space) and which has or is near restaurants that are open for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner?

You could look into Lyme. There's a guy who owns a bunch of land that he opens up to the public for cross country skiing. He even has a warming hut with hot cocoa. It's near the Skiway but I don't know any further details. There's probably a restaurant in Hanover that would be open.

In Littleton, the Pine Hill Trail and PRKR MTN trails are public trails through the woods that are open for snowshoeing. We already have a pretty good snowpack up here that is not going anywhere. There are plenty of other trails in the area as well, but those are the trails in town that I know best.

Littleton has a good variety of restaurants. I haven't seen any of them post about their Christmas hours yet, but I assume at least some of them will be open on Christmas Day. At the very least the Chinese restaurants will definitely be open. If you are looking for a somewhat upscale dining experience, nearby in Whitefield, the Mountain View Grand will have a Christmas Day breakfast buffet, and as far as I know will also be serving dinner on Christmas Day

Edited to add: If you feel like paying (not that it is necessary given the amount of free trails in the area) Bretton Woods has extensive well-groomed snowshoeing trails and since it is a resort, at least some of their restaurants/dining rooms will be open on Christmas Day.

If there is snow by then, the trails around Massabesic Lake are nice. You can access them from behind the Audubon Center off of Spofford Rd. Also, since it's close to Manchester and Bedford, you are bound to have dining options.

The Omni Mt. Washington Hotel's restaurants will be open Christmas Day and there are plenty of cross country and snow boarding trails.
