Hello everyone, if all goes to plan I hope to be in your beautiful
state in May? Can anyone give me an honest opinion on the drive
to the summit of Mount Washington and be totally honest. I don't
do high bridges well at all. I should say if they are flat and ten miles
high they don't bother me in the least but if they start rising at a steep
angle that's where the problem comes in. I have watched numerous
videos on the drive up and the fact there are no guard rails really
bothers me. I was curious to see if there are people that would drive you
or a short tour to the top? I'm really not interested in taking the cog railway.
Thank you!

Yes, there are tours by van but they don't begin until late May. It's common for Mt Washington to get snow in May. The road is almost continuously uphill, but I personally wouldn't say it's any scarier than the guardless Blue Ridge Pkwy, if you're familiar with that. Be aware that it's cold up there, and dress appropriately in layers.

It would be around May 9th or so, too early for the tours. I am familiar
with the guardless Blue Ridge Pkwy and I can handle that. Snow in May,
I would be in heaven! Thank you for the links, I appreciate that and your
help KCZ!

The road may not be open to visitors yet on May 9th. I would call the number on that link and ask.

I can't see wanting to go from NC with the ambient temp 70-80, and dragging all my winter clothing to a place where the wind chills are below freezing, but that's just me. Enjoy the rest of NH in the meantime, and when you come back, be aware that Mt Washington's weather is nothing to take lightly.

Remember you can always take the train up when it's running. I've rode the train (when it was steam), drove, and hiked up multiple times, the drive was probably the least enjoyable of the 3 but I still enjoyed it.

This has been the winter from hell. One little snow and the rest above normal
temps with below average precip. It gets old fast for a snow lover like myself.
