I'm looking into buying a home (vacation for now, possibly full time later on) in NH.

I want to be in the southern half so that I can go to Boston for my kids' specialized health care.

I have four kids, one on the way.

We are not wanting lake frontage. We want a simple vacation home, off the beaten path....leaning towards cabinish.

Where should I be looking, and what should I expect to be paying?

Thanks for your help!

Sue

Check out the "Lakes Region" of NH. it's just 2 hours from Boston. Lot's of vacation homes. As for price......that's up to your needs. A nice new condo with 3 bedrooms & 2 baths can be had for as little as $160,000. Good luck.

Thank you for your help!

We are looking for something off the beaten path.....and no condos.

We have four kids going on five, need a little more room, but something reasonable.

We are looking at cabin like homes.....

Any hints?

We don't have to be anywhere near a lake, it's not a "must".

Sue

What's your price range, if I may ask? That would really help narrow down locations.

Well to be honest, it must be under 200.

And the lower the better (and property tax is an issue, some places it is super high, some not so high).

We also want some privacy, so not 1/3 an acre all next to a bunch of houses....

for under 200, you are really limiting yourself - it will be a difficult search

have you checked mobile homes? or foreclosures?

if you want something with more than 1/3 an acre, you will have to fork up some $$$

Hmmmm....this could be a tough request. Maybe our resident southern NH realtor, Valerie, can help you with this. Val...where are you?

see, the problem is that southern NH, commutable to Boston, is where the majority of people want to be (that's why it's the most populated) - so it's much more expensive than northern NH. especially the closer you are to Boston. Tp give you an idea: look on a map and find Nashua and Hollis (right on the border, at I93/Rt 3 and just west). It takes about 45min - 1hour to get to Boston from there. If you want closer, you'd be looking more in the seacoast area (doesn't mean on the coast, just the region) which is definitely higher priced.

hmmm, how handy are you for a fixer-upper?

You may want to consider the areas west of Manchester and Concord. There are many small towns with numerous properties off the beaten path that may fall into your price range.

You might need to be north of Concord to find somethig in your price range. Staying around route 93 will get you to Boston quick. Check our Northwood & the Franklin/Tilton area.
