I am looking for a house in NH - southern NH -
What's the real deal with the commute to Boston. I have a daughter in school and need to drop her of and pick her up each day before and after work.

Does anyone know how long the commute is from Hollis to Boston, Derry to Boston, South Hampton to Boston, etc. I just don' know which areas to look in...

I need to drive to work each day so public transporation is not a concern.
I need to be at work by 800 and leave around 400.

What's the best route to travel to Boston from NH areas during rush hour?

THANKS!

Check out my other post. Driving is not an option. Route I-93 is the only road worth considering.

Londonderry is a great place to live and has really good, although expensive, schools.

Well, now I-93 is not the ONLY road.

It's good if you live on the east side of the river, but even so it's a bear to drive. I drove it for six years from Manchester to Salem. It took me a couple of years just to get used to taking my life into my hands like that! That road doesn't get wider until you get to MA, which helps with traffic flow but that's quickly overtaken by other commuting traffic that joins in.

If you are west of the river, Rt. 3 is good, especially now that they've improved and widened it through Nashua and all the way down into MA. That seems to me an easier ride than 93. I can get to Boston in 50 mins down Rt. 3from Merrimack. Not bad.

From Hollis it's about 45min-1 hour. Of course during rush hour it's much worse as Rt 3 tends to resemble a parking lot.

If you need to be at work in Boston by 8:00 and are heading home at 4:00, you'd have to leave around 6:00 am and arrive home at 6:00 pm. Nasty!
