Continuing our search for a to live in a location near Philly, I was interested in getting some info about Delran. We are racially mixed family and we are looking for a diverse population with decent to good schools. Upon some basic research on Delran, it looks like it could fit our needs. Can anyone give me some more information about that community? Thank you.
It is. It just has different sections. Check out the Downtown area by church street or the Lenola section. I had all types of friends growing up. Matter of fact when my family used to visit they could not believe how diverse it was. You should check it out.
What's your budget? That goes a long way towards recommending towns. Also, "diversity" is a pretty relative term in South Jersey. I'm going to list some of the towns by county that I know to be decent towns that also offer some level of diversity:
In Camden County...
Cherry Hill is rather diverse, but the largest minority group is Asian and the African American percentage is similar to most other towns. Collingswood offers a similar mix to Delran. Voorhees is pretty diverse with a decent sized African American population about the size of Delrans (though Asians are even more of a dominant minority then in Cherry Hill). Somerdale has a large African American population, nearly 20% and nearby Stratford has a similar demographic make-up as Delran.
In Burlington County...
Westampton has a large African American population, over 25%. Eastampton is also rather diverse at over 16% African American. Palmyra has a decently sized African American community at around 15%. Mount Laurel has a similar make-up to Delran.
Those are the areas I can think of off the top of my head that have larger African American populations and are more diverse, but also have decent schools and housing selection.
As for Delran itself, it's not a bad area at all and matches what you are looking for.
Are you black? If so you might want to move to Willingboro.
