Its needed , along with the 60 Billion $ Northeast Rail network upgrade. Unless you want to be stuck in a tunnel with no emergency exits & fire raging......+ The Current Station is at 100% Capacity. Its so bad now that even Amtrak is building tunnels now and a new station. Which is included in the 2030 Northeast plan , which will cost around 500 Billion $$ , mostly private-public projects. The signal and wire damage that happen today will only get worse if we don't do these types of projects.

It might be needed but the bottom line is that there is NO MONEY. The state is broke, the federal government is running on a deficit.

You really, truly believe we should borrow hundreds of billions of dollars from China to build luxuries like extra rail tunnels? I know you're into trains and such, but I think you should take a little of that effort and learn about economics and fiscal policy.

you gotta love the drama of this post "unless you want ppl to die?"

the reality is that every penny the government spends is abuse of taxpayers.

Its the truth , the Tunnel is near collapse. The signals are falling , the wires are 80 years old. It needs to be replaced.

Default one way tunnel would work

8.7 billion dollars "projected" to reduce the commute from 1.7 hrs(approx 110 min) to 40 mins?

Apparently a 1.7 hr commute and paying tax to NY and NJ is worth the paycheck.

Glad to know the folks holding high end jobs, yuppies and terrorists will save some time commuting to Manhattan.

Want to bet the projected cost is probably about a third of the final cost?

The guys who ran the tunnel project in Mass might be available to get this one done.

Raises housing values to create an elite neighborhood spreading from Manhattan. Of course the guys promoting the tunnel probably bought up all the property as a sure thing investment.

It will probably cost 10 billion $$. But 80% of NJT Ridership goes to NYC , that tells you something...... I think the feds should pay for it , its there tunnel to begin with. The tunnels should have been replaced in the 80s but red tape has held it up intill now. But the Whole network is approaching 100% Capacity and a new Tunnel and station are needed unless you want to have delays on every line?

I think the problem here is you have people with the "if it doesn't help me we don't need it" mentality.

Some people want it spent on paying educators, some going towards towns so they don't have to make cuts in services like police, fire, ems, etc.

I do believe this project has a much better payoff and chance of returning something to NJ whether its short term in the way of jobs and/or in the long term of having wealthy NYC workers reside in NJ.

That being said thats if this project is done right. Anyone who's been part of any type of big proposals of long term projects knows that IT NEVER TURNS OUT the way its planned. There are cost overruns, schedule setbacks, etc. Unfortunately in the past, NJ has been so full of corruptness in the gov't that you'll have people complain wherever money is sent because it could be true that money isn't being spent well.
