i love the crime argument. people near scranton say that too. while it's partially true (low income persons have easier access to migrate out there) - it's completely countered by the fact that many higher salary positions now become available to the scranton area residents! so stupid.

The excuses have been ....

1. my child plays near or on the tracks and he might be in danger
2. The gates take to long and congestion will ensue

4. Horn noise
5. The line runs past industrial areas so what benefit does t have to us...

LOL , it was classic NIMBY , shows how uneducated ppl are.....i wish NJT and NJDOT wouldn't tell towns what there doing...
From the information you have, how much power does Tenafly have to oppose this? I live in a neighboring town and really would like to see this go through.

not much , CSX is abandoning line. Its only used by a company in North Vale and once a week. The line is heavily supported by the Governor and Englewood , North Bergen and Ridgefield park. I think the ppl are afraid the trains will be as loud and big as the freight trains. They won't very quiet trains , there basically long buses. The line should open in 2015 and the cross-county connection will open in 2014. That will link North Bergen JCT with Paterson via Hackensack. The Town can't really do anything , the County can. But the County heavily supports the lines along with the state.

Thanks for the info Nexis.. I am on the border (in Cresskill) practically in Tenafly, and I have no problem with the plans. I think it will be great and much needed for our area..

Yeah, that would be great.. I was under the impression that it might extend even into Rockland County at some point. Frankly, I don't understand the complaints. My parents still remember when passenger trains ran from Cresskill and Tenafly, so we're just going back to what once was anyway.

is it just the light rail? the light rail in hoboken was virtually silent, except for the whistle. no biggie, except at night, but they don't run very late anyhow.

Yes , NJT is planning to the same to almost all the dense Suburban / Urban lines. The line is bad shape , so all tracks will need to be replaced. Its needs to be double tracked and electrified. Stations , new crossings and ROW need to be bought. CSX is over charging the state like they always do for lines that are useless.

Here in High Bridge we're sure hoping so. We currently get something like 10 trains per day during the week and no service on the weekends. Not to mention the fact that you have to change trains at Newark due to there only being diesel service on the Raritan Valley Line. I'm pretty sure that dual mode locomotives (meaning locomotives that can run on diesel power in non-electrified territory and then switch to electric when overhead power is available) are supposed to be running on the RVL by 2016 or so?
