Recently found this forum and very happy to see that there are many south jersey folks here. I currently live in Marlton and grew up here most of my life (since I was 12.)
I recently bought a single home in Marlton. The house is about 2400 sq.ft. and this is the first winter for my wife and I living in a single home. In the past 7 years, we lived in a town home not far from where we currently live. Our average Gas/Electric Bill in the winters were between 250~320. It was high due to having an older town home and poor windows and bad duct work on the first floor.
Since we moved, we got our first high winter bill. Last month in our single home, it was $198, and this month was $402. Does it seem correct? When we are home, we tend to keep the temp. somewhere between 68~71 and 62 when we are at work. This past month has been cold and the bill seemed to be just a bit higher than the older town home. Our current home is much bigger and insulated a little better and have pretty good windows.
Does the bill seem to be pretty normal in the winter time in South Jersey or is it too high/low? $402( $293GAS/$109electric)
When it comes to taxes.... it is ridiculous lol........

Newer home with good insulation, or older home? If it's newer, that certainly seems high, but for an older, poorly insulated home that seems about right. Having that big of a house on one zone isn't helping things though.
My house was built in 2003.. so it's only 6.5 years old.
So you're saying I have poor insulation to my home? hmmm.... Our home gets a lot of sun and also has a lot of windows. (27 total.) all builder's grades.
I just can't see why it is almost $300 for GAS. I do set it at 70 degrees when I am home (between 7~11pm)
something isnt right, my house is 2200 sq ft. my house stays at 64 during the day at 70 degress from 5-11:45pm where it drops down to 62 from 11:45pm to 6am. my bills are no more than 120 for gas and 90 for electric. I have a time of day meter for electric
I also set my dishwasher to not use hot water and have my water heater set at the recommended temperature

Try to keep your thermostat more steady and see if that helps. Going from 62 to 70 every day is a big change, particularly when it is extremely cold like it has been for the past month. You will waste a lot of energy trying to re-heat the house. Usually no more than 5 degrees up or down is recommended.
FWIW, I live in an 80 year old house and my gas bill was about $300 last month. That's for about 1800 sq ft (single zone) and keeping the thermostat no higher than 65 at any time.

They had actual reading of the gas and electric meter. I know that because I compared it to show if it was actual. Your house temp seems to be the same as mine and only pays $120 for GAS? Something isn't right there........ your home must be REALLY WELL insulated. I cannot see any NJ house setting at 70 degrees the past month (which was really cold.) to be only at $200.....
Were they back billing for the month prior (if it wasn't actual)?
