In Phillipsburg, NJ. My boyfriend got a job offer there. We are both aware of the bad reputation it has from the safety and environmental problems in the past few years. Have they turned things around over there?

I can't speak from experience, but I would guess that if they're still in business they must have cleaned things up. They were fined $8 million dollars and a couple of the managers are still in prison as far as I know. The EPA and OSHA are probably still keeping a very watchful eye as well. It's sad to see a longstanding American manufacturing company having engaged in such practices, but hopefully they've learned their lesson. In this economy I'd advise your boyfriend to take the job but always be watchful for unsafe conditions.

No, it's still a very bad place to work. You BF would be better off not accepting.

It might not be as bad as it used to be, but I can tell you first hand it's an still an extremely hostile work environment. the management is verbally abusive and disrespectful. they constantly demand more work out of their employee's, but won't give them the tools to do the job right, all while the GM gets a new $85,000 SUV on company dollar. people get hurt all the time, in fact, the injury rate is very high. I heard there was still some shady environmental practices going on to, but word is they cover it up.

There are still a few good people there, but chances are you BF won't be working for them.

Also, don't mention your BF's name or position on the web. They on occasionally monitor the internet, and if caught he'll be assigned a "punishment job" like working a few night shifts or weekends when you had plans with family - another example of how it's a bad place to work.

First hand? Are you a former employee of theirs?

Well, my boyfriend started work yesterday. Only one of the guys there mentioned that the company was being sued for stuff related to the incident mentioned above, said that those with prison sentences have not started serving them yet and are still in the "appeals" stage.
