No not a reputable one..they can steer them to available research on line as far as demographics but not to a certain town based on race
I remember some years ago a couple of real estate agents got busted for "steering" in places like Wyckoff. A well-to-do black couple who was interested in buying there was told there was nothing they would be interested in, and steered to "blacker" towns, so this group sent in a white couple with the same income and requirements and poof there were lots of houses in Wyckoff for sale.
How you see it doesn't mean squat. There are certain rules that need to be followed and this is one of them.
what? since when cant american citizens have opinions even ones that disagree with current law? laws are written and passed by corrupt legislators. if you agree with all of them, you are a fool. laws change, they arent written in stone.
so how i see it means plenty of squat.
also, i dont see where this is a law that realtors cant help respond to requests from home seekers based on race. this is what i see: "Agents in a real estate transaction are prohibited by law from discriminating on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin." based on that, (what i found so far, there may be something else) i dont see it as discriminatory to show people towns based on a request regarding the racial make up of the town.
if there is something else that is written in law that prohibits that, then i would assume you could easily provide it since you are so confident in your knowledge of what rules must be followed. i appreciate you responding with the text of the law you are referring to. thanks.
You can have any opinion you want. That opinion doesn't mean squat based in relation to how things work TODAY. And TODAY, they can't do that.
1. you clearly dont know if they cant do that because you havent responded with any law that states they cant do it.
2. im posting my opinion on an internet forum, im not expecting to make any big changes here. whenever someone gives an opinion on here you could say to them "your opinion doesnt mean squat." just makes you look like a fool.

In the opinion of the department of justice, and possibly your state Attorney General's office, the fair housing act does prohibit racial steering, and in some cases, the courts have agreed with them.

But he may be right in that the real estate agent isn't doing the steering in the situation as he presented it. He asked if a real estate agent would choose the towns that meet the racial quota set by the client, whatever that was. If a client says, show me homes in towns that have a population of this race of at least 8%. And you're probably right, Captain, that a real estate agent could get away with doing that, as they aren't setting the criteria, and they are using a readily available stat to help the client meet their "needs". The problem is that the real estate commission has so frightened real estate brokers and agents with the threat of fines, penalties & loss of license, the no one wants to get anywhere near the issue.

Depends on how the conversation is going. If person A says 1+1=2 and you say in your opinion 1+1=3, your opinion wouldn't mean squat. It would just make you look like a fool.

exactly. as i read the law, the realtor would only be in violation if they only showed someone certain areas on their own without the request of the searcher.
