My husband and I are relocating to NJ and are looking for a place to buy a house between Florham Park (where I will be working) and West Trenton (where he will be working). I am most concerned with the crazy traffic, and minimizing both of our commutes is important. I appreciate any and all suggestions!
Strictly based on location, you'd probably be looking in areas such as Hillsborough, Bridgewater, Basking Ridge.
But take a look at the "sticky" post on the front page and tell us more of what you're looking for - budget, size, kids/schools, other important factors.
My initial thoughts where Hillsborough or neighboring Montgomery Twsp but you can just grab an online map and most every place in between those two is rural or residential,,,places like Three Bridges, etc.
Buying a place in between likely means that you will commute on Rt 287 to Florham Park. Without traffic, that's about a 30 minute commute to a town like Hillsborough. The commute from Hillsborough to West Trenton would be around 45 minutes. Obviously, that really depends on how far into each town you have to commute. Hillsborough is also bigger than it looks so it depends on the neighborhood in that town as well. The good thing with Hillsborough or Montgomery is that the commute to West Trenton can involves lots of great backroads to avoid the Rt 206 morning mess (so I might suggest living a little closer to Florham park).
Living along Route 202 is also an option - Branchburg would put you a little closer to Florham Park and Flemington would put you a little closer to West Trenton. Route 202 can get fairly congested at rush hours but I never thought it was unbearable.
