I've recently received a job offer in Jersey City, I'm entirely unfamiliar with the area and trying to get an idea as to what neighborhood I should be looking to rent an apartment in. From what I understand there are some pretty rough areas in JC and some relatively nice ones as well.

A quick rundown of my situation.

I'm a 22 year old white male, moving from Boston, MA after living there for 2 years, originally from CT.

I'm trying to find a studio or a 1BR, preferably under $1k/mo (this was a challenge in most areas of Boston, not sure about here).

My potential workplace is located near the intersection of Newark Ave and Senate Pl - Is this an area I'd want to walk to/from work?

Ideally, I'd like to find somewhere in public transit + walking distance to the PATH my workplace that is relatively safe -- I have friends in Manhattan and Brooklyn so I'd like to be able to hang with them in the city and I hate driving, (especially if it's anything like Boston).

Is there public transportation in JC?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

LOL , is there Public Transit in Jersey City...60% of Jersey City uses Public Transit , its mostly a bus system with 3 light Rail lines , and 2 subway line connecting the dense areas....and yes more is planned... 1,000 won't get you much maybe 1200-1500$ will do just fine...

Good to know, that's what I was hoping for -- any suggestions as far as neighborhoods to check out?

Historic Downtown , around Journal SQ.....or outside Jersey City in Bayonne , Harrison or Weehawken...which is along the PATH / LRT network.
