I have a foriegn driving license for many years and passed the NJ written exam, but then I was told at the DMV that I have to take the road test because my foriegn license is valid for 4 years, and in their manual it says that driving license of my nationality is supposed to be valid for 2 or 5 years. their manual is not up to date. what can I do??? this is so wrong! tried to talk to the supervisor and she said that there is nothing they can do. How can that be? why do I have to pay for the fact that they are not up to date?
How long are you planning to be in the country for? That's what's going to determine if it's worth it or not, there may be some version of an international drivers license that you can use temporarily. But if you're planning on staying for a number of years then you are probably better off just getting a DL and being done with it.
I mean we're talking $24 here. If your budget can't handle that level of unexpected emergency cost you have bigger problems.
