Hello
I am new here ... so just to start - I am currently applying for a job in Englewood Cliffs (so don't know yet if I get this job! <fingers crossed>). I am a 25yr F, at the beginning of my career To make it more complicated I am from Europe with no friends in NJ...

Could any of you please advise me whether it is worth a try, because from what I can see on this forum NJ (especially Englewood Cliffs area) is not a cheap (and safe?) place to live

Where are you coming from? Europe
Why are you moving? Want to try something new!
Where will you be working ? Englewood Cliffs

Will you buy or rent? Rent
What is your budget ? < 1K
What kind of place are you looking for ? don't know yet (would appreciate any tips )

Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you ? No
Do you need/want good public schools? No

Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in :
Safe place ; with public transport to get to work.

I would really appreciate your opinions.
Thank you in advance,
Regards,
Lucy

Are you open to getting roommates? Could help you meet some people. I don't think you will live in Englewood Cliffs (that area is mostly large expensive family homes) but you might find something in Englewood for that price or even somewhere a little more "fun" if you are open to having roommates.

Will you be buying a car when you get here?

Wow! Sure, if getting a roommate might be the only way, then why not
Meeting people - would love that
Car - yes, but not sure if I can afford it from the very beginning.

Icibiu, do you know if there is any other website where I can find someone for this flat-sharing?
Thank you

Englewood cliffs is in extreme north east corner of NJ
right across river from NYC, almost to state line with NY state
mostly residnetial with upscale single family homes.
does tend to be expensive area, but your potential new salary might be in line with area cost of living. so you may need a lot, but will make a lot in new job (hope for you)

car is probably needed, even buy a cheaper used one.

With car, you could expand potential your living place to lower NY state.
below Tappen Zee bridge, (Tappan, Orangeburg etc)

Or shy south along river on NJ side to Jersey city

OP-definitely budget a car into your moving budget even if it's just a reliable clunker. NJ is not the kind of place where you can get by on foot and public transportation.

You can look at craigslist to find people looking for roomates, just be very careful and be critical of people, assume everyone is trying scam you and they have to prove otherwise. Fun place to live at your age is definitely Hoboken, and lots of people to roomates there so you won't have a hard time finding people looking for this set up.
