well the reason I ask is I have a friend who is very polish. Her husband and her are for the past years since they came with NOTHING to this country have become LOADED! I mean over the top loaded. She also mentioned at one time they were being investigated by the feds and their bank accounts were frozen for a short time. It never got mentioned again and I dont bring it up. He claims to work and have his own company in Wallington but they way they live it looks funny to me. So I was wondering is there a Polish mob.

Yup. Definitely there is a Polish Mob. However, it's structure is different that most. Where most mobs prey upon their own people to extort money for protection or housing, the Polish Mob is more like an underground job market. If you want a job, you need to make connections with the right people within the underground. The connections are mostly in the trades, especially electrical and plumbing, though there are also some in masonry. For the women, house cleaning is the biggest racket.
The connections are not made at union halls. They are with established companies who you apprentice with. The Mob takes a cut of your salary, which is always paid in cash, and you say nothing because you have a job. Once you get to a certain level in the structure, then you have to start taking people under your wing and "legitimize" yourself.
Don't think there isn't violence associated with this, however. There are several gangs known for loan sharking, gambling, armed robbery, grand theft, drug dealing and violence. In the NYC area, the best known gang would be The Greenpoint Crew. In Philadelphia, it would be The Kielbasy Posse out of the Port Richmond neighborhood.
Just keep in mind there is a difference between those who are descendent Polish and those who are from the Gypsy groups.
Hey RUNYYfan, can you explain that a little further?
An underground job market eh, isnt that just social networking? Is like a violent kind of social network? Where in, the beneficiaries get beat up, if they dont pay? So I guess the polish mob is to employment agencies, as italian loan sharks are to banks right?
Funny, I always wondered what the stereotypical job of the polish immigrant was. Like with the irish, it was police, firemen; italians in construction, chinese with restaurants. No offense is meant.

this post nails it, it makes sense. He is in the trade business. He actually owns something that deals with a trade. IT just is very sketchy to me the way they live over the top! I mean over over the top. Money is really flowing and I know this is common with most people but this is beyond most people. So your answer is the correct one.
