Just curious (demographics, modernization) which direction is Chester heading in?
From my observation, the Shop Rite plaza could use some good old fashioned power scrubbing. Same could be said for the King's plaza in Mendham- it is a few notches cleaner though. A decorative element here or there, maybe even a bench, would not hurt either. I think the plaza and the shape it is in is an embarassement to the community. I can not believe that no one is doing anything to change that. The community just celebrated "Chester Day". Too bad there was not a collection can for "Chester Cleaning Day".
The Main street area could use some more vibrancy when it comes to food choices. I am so desperate to find a quick yummy bite everytime we are there, that I swear I am going to open up my own place there one day. Watch out you will love it!
The Main street store front areas look boring and drab. With the recent signage lawsuit, I am not surprised. By trying to preserve the historic look, the touch with reality has been lost. Historical should not mean plain, plain, plain. Did I mention plain? How do you expect people to spend money when they are not drawn in by something U N I Q U E that catches their eye?
I truly hope that I do not see day laborers gathering in larger and larger numbers on Main St (the predjudice comes from seeing what goes on across the train station in Morristown every morning). Hopefully I am wrong, and the guys are just gathering there for a quick break.
The Grove St park could use some art. Actually, a few strategically placed large bronze sculptures would look amazing. Or a big wooden bear sculpture at the entrance would give something for the kids to look at and remember.
Oh, and tiny community garden plots would be awesome for the kids.
Second that! I miss the Turkey Farm and the Chester Flea market - got some great bargains on antiques there. There are over 30 restuarants in Chester (granted this list includes places like Dairy Queen and pizza places) but even still I always loved the Publick House. Chester is a pretty town and also fairly affluent.
I love Chester. I was ranting, had a bad day... Just want it better taken care of, that's all. Chester is losing business, all I meant it could be better!
Understand now, everybody has a bad day now and then so don't worry about the rant. I think business particularly retail has slowed down in most cities with the current economy. It's too bad they closed down the flea market which brought hundreds of people into Chester many of whom would also patronize the restaurants and stores.
