I wanted to travel by Amtrak for a trip. It would be easier to leave out of Trenton than anywhere else. The only concern I have is parking. I would need to leave the vehicle in the lot for several days.

Everyone tells me not to do this because there is a high crime rate in Trenton. They caution the car will not be there, will be vandalized, and so on. So, how safe is it to leave a car in the Amtrak train station lot for several days, perhaps as long a week? Isn't the lot secure and/or monitored by security? It has been a very long time since I have used the Amtrak station in Trenton, NJ.

Your advice on this would be very greatly appreciated. It would be so much easier to travel to the Midwest out of Trenton.

Leaving your car parked anywhere for an extended period of time is a crap shoot.
Leave it locked in your garage and take a taxi to the train station and your worries will be over.

It is too far to take a taxi! I did some research via a search engine and have learned that the station has 4 parking lots around it. Apparently, there have been upgrades. It would just be much easier to travel to OH via NYC rather than go to Philly, change trains and go to DC, then get on the train to Toledo. Yuck. If we leave from NYC, it is straight through.

The NY - Chicago route is faster then DC by 1 day...its only 13-15hrs to Toledo...but you can still park at Trenton or Hamilton....

Amtrak stops at Metropark. You might want to consider parking there.

I have parked my car for a day in one of the two garage structures next to the station. I am not sure how the car would not be there since you have to pay to leave the garage. Do realize the parking garages are geared towards commuters. Some spots are reserved for permit parking.
