It's that time of the year again for me to choose and enroll in a medical insurance plan. We have been with Horizon Blue Cross of NJ for a few years now. I was thinking of going with Aetna HMO this time. The plan prices are the same. I also have checked their provider listings and all our current doctors are in the Aetna physician directory.

Does anyone here have experience with Aetna HMO? How satisfied are you with them?

I think you'd be better off asking this on the Medicare subforum of the Retirement forum. You might want to consider not getting an Advantage plan at all. I changed my mom from her BCBC advantage plan to traditional medicare as soon as I was able to. Even though she has to pay $245 a month for her supplemental plan now, she was paying much more in co-pays with the advantage plan. Once you do get sick and start needing it you'll find it doesn't pay. My Mom was in the hospital then a rehab for about 4 weeks last year, and with her BCBS plan she ended up owing between $8,000- $10,000 when all was said and done. This will IMO be the same with any advantage plan (I also work in health care and see how stingy the advantage plans are and how hard you have to fight to get things approved).

Anything is better than Horizon these days....most of their expenditures are for their top-level management. No insurance plan is "wonderful", but Horizon is clearly the bottom of the barrel these days. Good luck!

Not all Horizon plans are created equally.

I have Horizon, and for the most part, they are wonderful.
