Seriously!? Your hatred of guns is so intense that you're willing to fabricate stories in order to justify something so utterly stupid? Do you regularly see police officers drunk on the job and "annoying people" in restaurants? Here is the original article-it references nothing of the sort. The detectives were eating their meals and not bothering anyone when they were approached by the manager and asked to leave:

BELLEVILLE: Denny's: Open 24/7 -- unless you're a Belleville police officer with a weapon | Metro-east news | News Democrat

I know that you're a railfan, so why don't I make the same kinds of assumptions and surmise that you must not like police officers because maybe you're a "foamer" (railfans know what that means) and you frequently get caught trespassing and putting yourself into unsafe situations trying to take pictures of trains. Of course I have no basis to assume that, but I just did to prove a point. It's not so fun to be on the receiving end of that kind of nonsense is it?

Assumptions on your part as no where does the article even imply that. Police are allowed to carry weapons off duty or in plain clothes....in addition Denny's corporate apologized do not think that would be the case if they were in the condition you implied...

So sick of cop haters in this forum

The story states that a customer complained about the out of uniform cops being armed. So to that customer these were just two armed guys in Denny's, and in today's climate I can't fault the customer. But the manager, upon verifying they were actually law enforcement officers, should have politely explained that fact to the customer and served those on duty, armed cops.

Asking cops on duty to disarm is just nuts.

How does being a Liberal have anything to do with this story? How do you know the customer who complained wasn't a Conservative, Independent, Libertarian or politically agnostic, just to name a few?

Maybe in today's climate they just felt threatened by two armed men entering Denny's, no police uniforms and nothing identifying them as police officers. Maybe they saw "Pulp Fiction" and were afraid the place was about to be robbed.

I am going to go out on a limb and just assume that this "manager" was simply your garden variety idiot who didn't understand the regulations. Missouri is a carry friendly state and also permits open carry, so Denny's may have a policy against firearms carried by civilians in their restaurants. In any state, even if you have a carry permit as a civilian, if you are asked to leave private property or disarm on private property and do not comply you can be charged with trespassing. Private property rights are private property rights. However, I've never heard of a place barring police officers carrying firearms while on duty. This guy probably thought that the rule applied to them because they weren't in uniform. Not smart, but also not some kind of "evil liberal conspiracy" either.

Agreed but even if off duty they are allowed to carry and many the times it was an off duty that saved the day
