Hi! I have a job offer to relocate from Iowa to New Jersey. The job is located in Plainsboro; salary is in the $80s and I am a single income family with one child, 8. I have family who live in neighboring Princeton, and want to stay close to them and to minimize my commute. In searching for the best area to live, I am trying to learn more about the below:
Thanks in advance!!
1. School District Comparison - West Windsor-Plainsboro vs. South Brunswick School District? I am open to the Princeton school district of course but am pretty sure that living in that district will be out of my price range.
2. Housing - I will be renting and from my internet searches all I can seem to find are extremely small (less than 1000 sq. ft.) apartments? Are there townhomes for rent in Plainsboro, or the neighboring areas? Or larger apartment complexes? I completely understand that the cost of housing is dramatically different in New Jersey; I am willing to pay for space though :-)
3. Best place to raise a family? Is there anything to know about one area (within Plainsboro vs. anywhere in the SBSD school district) that I should know about?
You might look at the townhomes in Princeton Landing (in Plainsboro). There are a couple of those for rent. They are very spacious.
There are also some new condos for rent above the shops in Plainsboro Town Center but I don't know how big they are.
Check out Windsor Ponds and Windsor Haven in West Windsor for rentals too. Might be easier to contact a realtor for help, townhome rentals go fast.
Plainsboro is very affordable with good schools. Don't move to Princeton unless you want to be surrounded by people who think they're better than you the moment they find out you don't drive a Mercedes Benz and send you child to $20k a year private school. South Brunswick isn't bad either but I'd go with Plainsboro.
You cannot go wrong with either towns. Both Plainsboro and South Brunswick offers safe family friendly neighborhoods, good schools and diversity. If your primary goal is to stay close to Princeton and have a shorter commute, Plainsboro might be the right choice.

Good Luck and welcome to New Jersey!
I recommend West Windsor-Plainsboro schools. In addition to the condo complexes in Plainsboro Jerseyj mentioned, you might be able to rent a townhome in Canal Pointe in West Windsor.
