Hi All,

I will be moving in to NJ this summer and would really appreciate if you can get me some insight on the possible residential areas that I will be considering.

Where are you coming from? Milwaukee, WI
Why are you moving? Job relocation
Where will you be working ? If NYC, what part of NYC? Newark, NJ

Will you buy or rent? Rent
What is your budget ? I need a 2 BR, 2 Bath, and my budget is around 1800. If I must, I can pay 1900
What kind of place are you looking for ? A safe neighborhood. Need predominantly Indian community, as parents/ in-laws will also visit often. Good public school district. A commute distance from Newark would have to be less than 40 minutes. Newer apartment, if possible.

Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you ? Pregnant wife (`6 months), one 3 years old child
Do you need/want good public schools? Yes

Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in
Families (Indian preferably) with young children, safe, nearer to highways, nearer to train station

List three things that are important to you in order of importance.
Safety, Family Oriented, Good School, Newly constructed apartment, easy parking (preferably indoor)

Thanks,
Jitendra

You may want to look at Plainsboro or West Windsor (both in the same school district.)

The train station is Princeton Junction. You can look at the NorthEast Corridor train schedule at www.njtransit.com

Thanks for your response . I will take a look. Someone recommended Edison and Iselin (Woodbridge Township). Do you have any opinion ? Thanks again! West Windsor will be more than 55 mins drive from Newark in peak hours. I wanted to keep it within 35-40 mins in peak time.

west windsor is a good idea, though it's far. are you willing to take the train or bus? if so, that could open up options for you. edison nj has a large indian community, but I don't believe the schools are great. you could look at Edison Glen Ter and Main St - Trulia

i'd look at montclair, since I didn't find much else in your range elsewhere. schools are good, and commute to newark is 25-30 min depending on where in montclair. options are 92-94 Church Street, Montclair NJ - Trulia, but I couldn't find much else.

NJ Transit, NorthEast corridor line, i.e. you can take a train out of Princeton Junction at 7:27 a.m. & be in Newark at 8:04 a.m.

You said he will drive. Is there a reason why taking the train is not possible for him?

You might want to take a look at the Upper Vailsburg section of Newark specifically the Ivy Hill Park Apartment Complex which happens to be the largest private apartment complex in NJ with over 2,000 apartment units and has a very large Indian population.

Since your Indian, you're better off renting in the Woodbridge area since you're close to Iselin that has the Indian markets and close to the train that goes directly into Newark Penn.
