When you get old you'll understand I went through the same thing when I applied for a passport. My old birth certificate that was issued in New York (1950) looked like a copy however it had the New York City raised seal on it. As soon as the lady from the passport office saw it she said you were born in New York. I said yes and she said that birth certificate is no longer any good. I told her it was fine for the last 55 years and she laughed. She gave me the number to contact the people in N.Y.C. to get a new one. My new birth certificate actually has less info on it than the original but has the same certificate number.

I also have a passport, for you guys struggling with the birth certificate problems, it might be a good investment, they last longer then a plain piece of paper and given the wait time to get one, its a good idea to get one before you actualy HAVE to have one.
I agree, right after my "old" birth cert. problem I applied for a passport.

My old one was lost years ago, so have a new one.
The best idenification everyone should have is a Passport.
When I received a new NJ licence under the new regulations, I was out in a few minutes. I've had a passport since 2001. Everyone in my imediate family does also. In 2008 you won't be able to leave the US without it, even the Carribean.

That's not just NJ - that's America. You know what's funny is here in FL, 3 out of the 5 people working in the DMV office by my house don't speak English. I guess Bilingual was only a requirement for English speakers?

No, but I laughed! I'd give you rep points if I could!

That's just simply ridiculous though - the "old" birth certificate. All of the jokin posts on the matter have made me laugh
