I am looking forward to moving to the Newark, NJ area soon to be closer to my boyfriend. I currently am employed full-time as a Records Processor at a lawfirm. I make pretty decent money and like it here so far. But I'm wondering once I move to Newark, is it possible to still commute to my job here in Center City?? or would it be best to look for work out in NJ, Newark area or close by there...maybe even New York.
What would be the better option and more efficient and affordable to do once I am living out in Newark??
If I change jobs...should I be looking for a position now? And if so, how do I let the employers know I'm moving to the area so that they won't pass over me because of where I currently live?
I used to date a woman in Center City when I lived a few miles west of Newark. It is a good 90 minute drive by car if you go the limit and above. A crazy commute. I would look closer to Philly.
ill add that a train commute is possible, but that would likely be pretty pricey. If your going to move, then it would be best to secure a job out here. I wouldnt worry too much about having a philly address when sending resumes to jobs in NJ/NY. just let them know you are moving to the area. Worst case, list your BFs address on your resume.
A commute from Newark to Philly would be completely ridiculous. The least you could do would be to move to the Plainsboro/Princeton area that would be about halfway between both cities.
If you want to pay $200/day (Amtrak) and spend an hour each way on a train, sure. The NJ transit option is $23.00... and over 2 hours on the train. Maybe one day they'll start up the "Clocker" service, but until then, forget about it. (and the Clockers didn't do reverse commtues anyway)

An Amtrak monthly is $1350 from Newark to Philadelphia.
Northeast Regional rush hour trains are included. Acela is only 10-15 mins faster.
