This is a thread I wanted to create to help those of us that have to travel from NJ to NYC for work. If you are a current bus commuter, please add your town, and the various options that a potential new resident would have to commute from your town into NYC, by bus, on a daily basis. I'll start it off, and, as people add their towns, I will edit this first post, until we have compiled a solid list!
Sayreville
Academy Bus to Midtown ($13 Daily, $275 Monthly)
NJ Transit Bus to Midtown ($11 Daily, $259 Monthly)
Academy Bus to Wall Street ($13 Daily, $275 Monthly)
All Buses Leave from the Sayreville Park & Ride (Located at the GSP North Entrance Ramp, at Raritan Avenue)
Daily Parking: $4 (Can buy from a machine at P&R)
Monthly Parking: $30 (Can buy from Sayreville Clerk's Dept)
In Springfield, there is the 144 (local) bus that comes from US 22, heads up Mountain Ave, and then turns onto Morris Ave and into Union. If you get on before Mountain/Morris, you are in Zone 6 ($216 per month, $7.50 per trip cash), otherwise it is Zone 5 (not sure what the prices are).
I am having a lot of trouble using the NJ Transit website to get information on the 114 Express, as well as how it differs from the 117 (seems to be an Express version of the 114). If anyone has information on this, I would appreciate you sharing it.

The 117 runs and stays on Route 22 for most of the trip until Bound Brook. The 114 express runs on 22 then runs locally into Scotch Plains, Plainfield, etc. http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T1114.pdf

Thanks. My next question, is it worth taking the 114 Express over the 114 Local, even though I can walk to the 114 Local stop? Are there places to park for free at the various 114 Express stops?

There's a commuter lot at the Mountainside library off 22, but you'll be paying more since it's zone 6. And I dunno if Walmart would let you park for free for 8-10 hours, and even so, it's a PITA to wait for the shuttle to take you from the bus stop to your car when you return. Plus traffic on 22 and 78 is a crapshoot. So you're better off at Springfield Center.
8A Park & Ride (South Brunswick, Monroe)
Academy Route 300 www.coachusa.com/CoachUsaAssets/files/99/route300.pdf
$17.50 on way (no expiration), $125 10 trip (20 day expiration), $250 20 trip (40 day expiration), $435 monthly- calendar month.
Parking $2 daily, $36 monthly.
Travel Time about 1hr to 1hr10min.
I am not sure why the tickets are so expensive. Monthly pass to East Brunswick is $325, surely, distance to 8A is not 33% more compared to distance from Exit 9. I see buses traveling to DC from NYC for $20 to $40, not sure why it should cost $17.50 to travel to NJ which is less than 1/4 the distance to DC. Having said that, the buses are frequent (during rush hours), reliable and comfortable.
I'm not seeing any Manhattan options from Metuchen. I guess the train is it?
