Depending on where you go and what you eat is basically the cost of the meal. I like Outback Steak House. My wife and I could go for between 50-75 range with a drink or 2 most. If we bring the rugrats all bets are off, we are looking at 200 plus.

I'm surprised most of the poll answers are 'under $50' but the responses aren't.

Two people.
Appetizers.
Entrees.
Dessert.
Wine.
Maybe a little Sambuca to help digest.
With a gracious tip. over $125.

Three of us went to Raimondo's on LBI and with tip, but no booze, it cost $200...and it was worth every dime.
To me when the food is excellent and I am being taken care of by my waiter then I do not care what the bill comes to.

Normally, we try to keep it around $100 or less here in NJ. In NY we try keeping it below $300. If it's a special occasion we will go all out, but I usually regret it afterwards. For example, for my birthday the wife took me to Per Se. It was off the hook, but way too expensive for an hour or two of enjoyment.

That's what I've heard--it's great, but when you leave, you don't feel like you've gotten your money's worth. I feel that way about the Raven and the Peach and Fromagerie in Rumson.

FWIW, I've never ever felt that way about Nicholas. I think it is worth every penny, and I'd much rather spend the extra $50-$75 to go there than the other two places I mentioned.

I voted under $50.00 even though we sometimes go over. We don't go out that often anymore. My wife learned to cook very well and enjoys making us tasty, healthy meals. Whenever we go to a place the entree's are 20 and up it seems like we leave dissapointed. I should add were trying to budget our money for retirement and our kids collage education.

And BTW......No way to buffets!

my SIL's condo is directly across the street from there, and I've never been. they used to like it until a friend of theirs had an "incident" (they wouldn't accept a GC or something like that) and now they won't go. however, if you like raimondo's, you should try La Spiaggia - it's the restaurant on the right as you're just about to go over the bridge to get off the island. They SWEAR by it and say it's the best Italian on LBI.

I'll be there!
Being Italian I only like to eat something that I will not get at home.

I'd say it's about average. It all depends on how "nice" the place is, too, of course, as well as what's being consumed.

Generally, a friend and I can go out to a nice restaurant, and without liquor/desert, spend about 40-60.
