Looking for suggestions, I am a young 20 year old male. Prefer safe and being around other young folks.
Ventnor--easy access to AC without actually having to live in the sleaze (though the ocean-adjacent areas immediately bordering Ventnor are fine). Be aware, however, that Shore rentals command a very high premi during the summer months, and I don't know how easy it is to lock in a reasonable annual rate.
On the Mainland, Somers Point is a very, very distant second (but much more consistently affordable).

I think Ventnor is a good suggestion. It's not really a seasonal rental town but more for year-round people, many of whom work in Atlantic City.. A friend of mine lived there (she rented a unit in the Dream Bay Condominiums on the bay side, nice little apartment). She knew a number of people who lived in Ventnor, and all of them worked in A.C. either in the casinos or restaurants or for the post office. Some A.C. cops and firefighters live in Ventnor, too.

Quiet town, dry/no bars, but close to everything.
Ventnor does have a lot of seasonal residents (1/3 of its housing units are for "seasonal, recreational, or occasional use"), and many rental properties do command insane premiums. You are correct, however, that Ventnor has much more of a year-round presence than Margate (and especially Longport), and a cursory search does show some affordable units.
