It discusses a potential extension of PATH train service to the southern ward as well as a total revamp of the neighborhood bordering Weequahic Park and revamping Frelinghuysen Avenue. I know the entire area is basically empty right now and finding this Transformation seems to be the reason. I'm curious if anyone has any information on it.
I don't have any specific info (can't get the link posted to work either). The area around Frelinghuysen Ave and Elizabeth Ave is pretty desolate, but there are some nice old buildings still standing, and I think there's more potential for a mixed-use neighborhood there than the more residential sections of the city. The streets near Weequahic Park have some wonderful-looking old apartment buildings. Given the state of public transit funds in this state, and the myopia of our leaders and voters, I wouldn't hold my breath on any PATH extension. There was an old plan for a light rail line down to the airport and possibly to Elizabeth, but that's been dead for a decade now.
Conversely if you google "newark dayton street transformation" it should be the first result to pop up
