I have been impressed with Cranford HS greatschools rating but I recently seen that it dropped to a 6 (from an 8)? Anyone have any insight into why? Change in principal, teachers, population shift???

Population shift. Cranford is getting more diverse as of late, I'm not gonna name which group or who's moving in but go to the town center area and shopping district and see for yourself. It's not that bad, really. Worry about your own kids SAT.
There was a principal change, but I find it hard to believe that has anything to do with the school ranking. More likely that they added some additional factors into the rankings and some schools moved around.
Personally, as a Cranford resident I don't think about it too much, as a one year swing one way or the other is kind of irrelevant and it's how things are going over 10 years that you really need to look at. Trying to chase the top school is kind of ridiculous, but being in the top 10 for the last 8 years or whatever is a better metric to look at.
That said, I wouldn't worry about the 6 rating at all at this point. The community is heavily engaged with schools both in the school board and PTA. If it keeps up for five years then you should be concerned, but single year isn't worth even mentioning.
Why wouldn't you name a group on a unanimous forum? And school rankings are complete bunk for the most part, anyway.
Because anytime you open up a discussion about identity politics it gets heated and mods gonna come in here and lock it up. I'm surprised you asked that consider your username.
I'll still never get why people hang so much on school rankings. Generally, you know which schools are good and which aren't. This is one of the good ones. It was 13th in the state like 5 years ago, if it's gone downhill at all since then, it certainly hasn't been THAT dramatic. Rankings just seem really arbitrary, because a year or two after it was 13, it was like 33.
LOL Ok now I know you're trolling. I've been suspecting for a while. Why don't people like you just leave the forum?? I don't get it.
Those who are extremely unhappy about their personal lives will frequently flail around in public forums with negative nonsense that doesn't even make sense, simply because these statements...somehow...make them feel better about their own failings.
What they fail to comprehend is that their negativity is very revealing.
In the past several years Cranford HS has been consistently dropping in SAT scores:
2013-2014 SAT 1210 (old SAT 1679)
2014-2015 SAT 1160 (old SAT 1605)
2015-2016 SAT 1010
Cranford often gets compared with Westfield, with the difference between high schools characterized as a washout (Westfield HS slightly better). But the reality is that Westfield HS scores much better in SAT, with the latest average score of 1221 (much better compared to Cranford HS).
Cranford HS used to be a great school. Today, it's just an average HS in NJ.
