Kayak? But seriously 49th and what? Make a big difference. Without knowing your hours either I would say Lightrail to Newport then Path to 33rd and then walk or subway.

1) light rail to newport jersey city
2) newport station path train to 33rd street
3) from 33rd street you got a gazillion options to get to 49 street.

That's the cheapest and most reliable way to get there via public commute.

anyhow, welcome to our little oasis, newcomer.

unfortunately, bayonne is a secret. it's a hicktown with a pennsylvania/quasi-jersey shore feel in a geographically urban area.

do you have a car? if you do or are getting one, which is a good idea, drive it to the Grove Street area, park it on the street, and take the PATH to 33rd from the Grove Street Station.

or, take our little jitneys up to the PATH station at Journal Square. They run between 5AM-1AM, or so.

take the NJ Transit bus on Kennedy or Avenue C to New York. Mind you, it travels locally through j.c., u.c., and w.n.y. you're talking an hour and 15 minutes for each ride!

take the light rail to hoboken, and switch there to the PATH station and go to 33rd Street. you may wait outside for 30 minutes off hours for the light-rail though.

take it from me, if you don't have one, get a car, or move to a place like maplewood or cranford, where there is a train that goes directly into manhattan's penn station.
