Is there even anything under $1,000? I am hoping for Middlesex County and towns like Carteret, Woodbridge, Avenel, Perth/South Amboy, etc. My range is hoping for $700 max.

You can get a 1 bedroom at Brynwood Gardens on Route 516 in Old Bridge right off Route 9 down the street from Glenwood Apts. Decent safe area nothing fancy but it will do.

You do not want to live there believe me. I lived at Brynwood super is nice office people are nice it is convenient to everything and while it is anything but fancy it will do. I lived off the Route 9 corridor for over 30 years the first 15 married with a house in Manalapan. Moved out and must have lived in at least half a dozen apts in Matawan Sayreville and Old Bridge. Brynwood is the cheapest one the others are 1K or slightly above.

Sounds good. Will look into those apartments. Also sounds convenient since its on Route 9, and it would be awesome if its within my price range.

If you want rent that low, you could go on Craigslist and search all apartments under $1000 in the towns you listed.

Most of the places will be floors or basements in a multi-family single house.

If you don't need to be by the train, you could probably find some places in Rahway, Carteret, and Perth Amboy around $800-900. I've seen them.

Might get $700 for a studio if you're lucky.

How is Craigslist for apartments? I get nervous about Craigslist for anything because of the horror stories I heard. I can try though if its good to go to for apartments.

I believe Craigslist started out as an apartment/roomate hunting tool and then spread to other things. I've been using it since the late-90s to look for apartments.

There's really no other way to find housing at your price level.

You could check out all of the large apartment complexes on Apartments.com or use a broker, but those would put you well over $1000.
