Just check your coverage. That information should be in the summary plan description.

And really, if you have questions about this, you should ask your insurer, not rely on what people on this forum tell you.

I don't think any insurance covers IVF. I have 2 friends that did it and had to pay out of pocket. I believe it's because IVF is not considered a medical necessity.

Actually it depends on the company. I'm an IVF momma, my insurance paid for it, Aetna. I think I heard something about the size of the company in which you work determines if the insurance company must cover the cost. I read something about NJ being a mandated state to provide infertility treatment. Some only cover certain parts of infertility like testing & beginning stages of process but some offer costs of all infertility treatments. You have to look at your plan or give them a call. That will be the best option for the correct answer.

You need to look into both and your husband's health plans from your HR's to determine which coverage is better. For our first, my employer covered everything. But I left that job after having my son, and when trying for second; my husband's employer only covered all the labs, bloodwork, consult, and medicine except for the actual IVF procedure itself.

I believe infertility coverage is mandated in NJ. My plan covered $20k lifetime benefit which was done during our second attempt at IVF . I had to pay for part of second try maybe $2k or so which did result in my daughter so it was money well spent.

Good Luck.

Yes, but they do:

In New York the Orthodox/Hasidic Jewish community was one that pushed hard to have mandated insurance coverage for infertility.

Some insurance in NY will cover IVF, but the insurance will be more expensive. When I switched jobs after a few out of pocket failed IVFs my new job had IVF coverage in their more expensive plan. It was an expensive plan, but it was cheaper than what we had been burning through by going out of pocket. We had the kid before moving to NJ, so we never had to get into the ins and outs of the NJ mandate versus the NY mandate.
