On the New Jersey section of the CityData forum are not being respected. I know being a moderator isn't an easy job, but I don't feel that closing threads when people are engaged in civil discussion is beneficial to the forum nor respectful of individual posters. This has been done to me and others for no other reason than we have some opinions that are in the minority on this forum.

I admit, there was one instance where I did insult someone. I deeply regret that and apologize. With that said, falsely accusing me of a copyright infringement in a private message and publicly closing threads I create when I clearly didn't violate the terms of service is wrong. While I respect the moderators, I will not be bullied. If the moderators choose to block and/or ban me from this forum, so be it. I would hope they would at least explain to me what I've done wrong before closing a thread. I'm sure there are others here who feel the same way.

I would ask the moderators to please reconsider closing threads when terms of service haven't been violated.

TOS:

"All posts unrelated to local matters will be deleted or moved. Threads dealing with controversial topics that often degenerate into flame wars, such as politics or religion, may be moved, closed, or deleted by moderators at their discretion without any warning to the participants."

Really? Read.

On any other local board you wouldn't have lasted half this long with what you post, every day. There is a Politics and Other Controversies board, since you state you have a degree in Poli Sci perhaps you should spend more time there. And in your porn star post.

Next.

If your views are on the conservative side be prepared for these kind of censorship and non sense. Needless to say, the response you received from the "so called: moderator speaks volume.....very uncalled for.

What makes you say that? Is there a posting "limit"? Didn't think so....?

Murphy is a " local" subject.

Just as Chris Christie was and still is.

Local politics don't get much interest on the POC board.

Murphy is going to get ripped to shreds, just like every other governor of NJ has been.

The 4 other local boards I participate in do not permit repeated political posts created to bait posters, it's against TOS. These are relocation boards. Not political boards.

I love when 'Murica chest-thumping conservative political expert patriots don't know what the 1st Amendment is.

Maybe if I told you that every time someone misconstrues the 1st Amendment, an angel loses its wings, a puppy dies, an illegal crosses the border, a Christian converts to radical Islam, and an MS-13 gang member dates your daughter and raids your 401K for tax money to give to the socialist Democrats who are planning to take all your guns and give them to Obama...maybe then, you would learn what the 1st Amendment is, and other America 101 type stuff. #MAGA

You are in violation of the forum rules by engaging in personal attacks. Also my intention isn't to bait anyone. Have a nice evening.

You are right in that technically, the owner of this site has every right to censor everything. But that's morally wrong in my opinion and I'm sure others agree.

Morality has nothing to do with anything here. And it's not censorship. It's forum moderation. This is a chat board. A real estate and relocation chat board. It's not a newspaper, and you are not a journalist. Nobody is threatening to jail you, or put you out of commission for your political opinions. Threads on City Data get locked all the time just for mere thread digression. On the Fashion & Beauty forum, a thread about purses will get locked because it turns into a giant thread digression about hats. On the Food forum, a thread about the benefits of veganism will get shut down if turns into a contentious forum food fight between vegan extremists and snarky carnivores.

The moderation is designed to maintain some semblance of order, as well as a certain tone. You think you're special?

Nobody is even saying that you can't say your piece. They're asking you to say your piece, but to follow the rules while doing it. This is a local forum, and they want to keep the political crap to a minimum, even if it's NJ politics. The NJ forum, in particular, is pretty forgiving (and this is coming from someone who has not only had posts deleted for a myriad of reasons, here and elsewhere on City Data, but have also been put in temporary forum time out, and prohibited from posting at all). It is laughable to think that any of this is censorship or bullying. Let us calm our collective tits. Have a Coke and smile, for crissake. It's just the internet.

And the notion upthread that conservatives are singled out for "censorship" is hilarious. Take a look at every other thread on this forum. It's filled with conservative outrage about how NJ is now in the midst of a Libpocalypse End of Days because dumbass Dems and Libs are too stupid to vote correctly.

Nobody posts more unpopular and provocative mostly Conservative content than I do, and I have never been silenced except for the few times when a leftist sent me over the edge and caused me to get out of hand with snarkiness. Nonetheless, censorship ONLY pertains to the government. City-Data is private property and may moderate or limit speech for any or no reason. There are no rights to speak here. You post at your own risk and any post may result in your elimination. That's what should keep you in line, the pressure of self-censorship. You know there's a line, and you stay on the correct side of it. Having posted on so many forums, I would classify the moderation here as reasonable, if not light. As long as you stay away from personal attacks and total hijacks, most of your posting life will be without incident. It is in City-Data's interest to moderate their moderation. Overzealous or underzealous moderation destroys a forum and kills its popularity. The balance is delicate.

1st Amendment protections, however, only apply to the government.

Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
