The better question is “If I can earn slightly less or the same salary in another state, why am I still here?”. I watch couples on HGTV buying beautiful homes for 250-350K and a piece of me dies inside.
Although I have family that has moved to Atlantic County and homes are a steal down there too!

there are a lot of reasons.
for me i am drawn to the ocean so i could never live in a flyover state. additionally, the culture, opportunity and seasons don't get much better in this general area.
i wouldn't even consider:
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Delaware
Virginia
if California wasn't so expensive it'd be at the very top of my list

IDK. Everyone likes to think the culture they have is the best, but you'd be surprised. I'm still surprised "Purple Rain" was cultivated in Minneapolis, MN. Culture is a product of the people, not the location. However, some locations tend to get people fixated on culture.
The answer is, of course you can do it. You will however have to make concessions and life style choices you otherwise wouldn't have to in a cheaper locale.
damn i wish i made half the money you guys make, I would be living like a king, I have to say we make less than 60,000 live in Aberdeen property taxes are 6500 a year, we are a family of 3 but used to be 4 one is out, still have one left,we have a small 2 bedroom 1 bath house nice back yard with a garage and house is probably worth 290 have a small mortgage,my car is paid for,the other child has a beater Honda civic so our combined insurance is 200 a month, have a 78 ford ranger husband uses pays 58 dollars a year in insurance,
no cable, only internet, we stream and of course the cell phone bill. we never eat out i cook pretty much 7 days a week, spend about 120-150 a week on food (shop religiously once a week) depends on paper products, we dont eat red meat so im sure that saves a lot, we have minimal credit card bills. so if i made 150 200 a year living where i do now i would probably be in more debt with all that extra money.. I think making as little as we do we have learned to manage and not spend on stuff we do not need and bank the rest..
People who usually post questions like this are the ones who want to know if they can live on that salary while...
- buying a million dollar house.
- driving a BMW 7-Series or Mercedes S-Class sedan.
- going on a minimum of two luxury European vacations per year.
- shopping exclusively at Whole Foods for groceries.
- furnishing the house with high-end handmade custom furniture.
- residing in one of the ten most exclusive towns in the state.
So, if that’s you, OP, then... NO!!! NO YOU CAN’T!!!
But, if you can deal with...
- buying a $450,000 to possibly $500,000 house...
- driving a nicely equipped Camry or Accord...
- going on an off-season trip to Disney World or Cancun...
- buying groceries at Aldi and Shop-Rite...
- furnishing the home with furniture from Bob’s, or if you want to splurge a bit, Macy’s, and...
- living in a decent, safe town with good schools, even though it may not be one of the ten most exclusive in the state...
then, Yes, Rabbit, yes you can...
......the wife just got me a new chair(Chair and a half) from Bob's with the memory foam.....damn it's nice! Does this make me poor?

I think you are more typical a Monmouth County resident than the more visible ones with the big bucks/big houses/boats, etc. Not rich, but OK and have everything you need. Not a bad thing.

My takeaway from that post is that $6,500 in property taxes is flat out insane for a house that small.
