I am looking for a local (Ocean County) mover who knows how to handle a full size grand piano. I currently live in Ocean County and will be moving/staying in the Ocean County area so long distance is out of the equation. Lots of movers say they do it, know how to do it, but just getting a half dozen big guys able to lift it don't make them movers. They really have to know how to detach and attach the pedals, the legs, and certainly protect the finish of the instrument.

It's way less common than moving a refrigerator, so I thought I'd ask if anyone used any particular mover to move their piano, and if they were satisfied with them. I'd also like to know if maybe you used somebody and were NOT happy with them. When I have moved in the past, I had regular movers for everything but the piano, and special piano movers for the instrument. I expect I might need to do that again so if anyone has any recommendations of a piano specific mover, I'd be very appreciative.

Thank you,

Steve

I'd telephone the Freehold Music Center in Freehold or Jacobs Music in Lawrence Township, which are apparently the closest grand piano sellers to Ocean County and ask them who they recommend or use for piano moving. Jacobs is the only authorized Steinway dealer for that area so whoever they use to move pianos must be very good.

Wells5, thanks for responding.

A call to a local piano store would have been my choice if I couldn't get a solid recommendation here, although sometimes they could farm out the job to the cheapest bidder. I can't be the only one to ever move a piano in Ocean County so I'm hoping to hear from someone who did.

Yes, also suggest you call Jacobs and ask for their suggestion. You can call their Philly headquarter store as well.
