I've always wondered about the northern parts of Bergen County. It seems like a pretty nice area.
Is there anything that distinguishes all of these towns between each other or is it just pure calm &quiet affluent suburbia? I know that Paramus has a lot of malls and shopping activity. Ridgewood is known for a nice downtown.
Are there any differences in character between these towns (besides slight wealth differences)?
I've searched these forums for a while and don't really see that many comparisons between the areas up there.
They're more alike than different once you get above Paramus/Ridgewood.
Most people would pick a town based on where they need to commute to work. The western side hooks up with 287 and the eastern side obviously has the Garden State Parkway. 17 down the middle.
Let's say you worked in Parsippany...a lot of towns in western Bergen County would work ok, but eastern Bergen County could be a nightmare. And ditto for the other side. If you worked in Woodcliff Lake, you might choose a town over there versus somewhere like Oakland.
The two halves are oddly pretty hard to go E-W or W-E on once you are above Rte 4/208.
If you have any questions about specific towns, I can probably help.
