I got a quote of $800 to repave about 700 square feet of driveway. They are not tearing up the old driveway. They are putting down a 2-inch base on top of the old driveway and then paving over that. Does that price sound reasonable? If not, does anyone have a company they recommend?

From my guess that sounds reasonable. My folks had their driveway redone and it was a few grand or so.

I had a gravel driveway and had it paved with asphalt.

The company did not remove any of the gravel and consequently, the driveway ended up being a few inches higher than the surrounding area.

Over time, my yard is losing topsoil due to the runoff of rain on the elevated driveway surface.

I'd get the driveway excavated a few inches so it is level with the surrounding area to avoid that. It exposes all the small roots of trees, etc., and creates a lot of problems.

It will cost more, but so does having topsoil trucked in and compacted.
