Hello. Debating on whether or not to create a veterinary mobile practice (to service the Ocean County area) that just does physical exams, vaccines, nail trims, anal gland expressions, feline leukemia/aids and canine heart worm and some tickborne disease testing, and treatment of mild skin/ear conditions. Anything more than that would require pet owners to see their normal veterinarian. I know there is currently a very long wait (1-3wks to get a vet appointment currently) and didn’t know if this type of mobile service would be helpful to the community or a waste of time. Any input/advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Mobile as in going house to house? I'm sure there is a market for that, it seems there's a wait for my Vet.

Interesting idea. Are you a licensed vet?

Some things to research:

How many mobile vets already operate in Ocean County?
Will the services you offer be competitive with the others?
What licensing does the State of NJ require to operate this business?
What insurance is required to operate this business?
What is the initial cost of the vehicle?
What is the cost of maintaining the vehicle, i.e. gas, insurance, repairs, etc.
What is the cost of advertising, payroll, upkeep of client database?
What is the cost of equipping the vehicle for animal care?
What is the cost of supplies?

Hmmmm, if you are a licensed vet, I can see this being good and bad. I feel like many pets gave anxiety or are difficult to transport, as well as the large elderly population woukd enjoy this option. But I also see it being difficult to advertise to the elderly who I think would want this service the most. I also feel like it could be difficult to get long term clients as they wind like having to them see another vet for more issues. I think if the prices were competitive, its usyy it ally $60 ish to walk in the door of the vets here.

Thank you so much for your replies, everyone! I greatly appreciate it. They, along with questions to research, were very helpful. I am a licensed veterinarian and you definitely gave me some important things to think about should I proceed with this. Thank you again!
