happens...I know we were joking about the pirates a week ago but this will hurt;

Frontline Ltd., which sails five to 10 tankers of crude a month through the treacherous Gulf of Aden, said it was negotiating a change of shipping routes with some of its customers, including oil giants Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP and Chevron, a move that could boost costs by up to 40 percent

The oil companies won't absorb this cost..it will be passed on to the consumer

No doubt prices could be affected by this, but the article stated that is was travel time that would be increased by 40%.

And the big 3 want us to bail them out. Where was the investment in new technologies...why aren't we ahead. So much for getting all these dinasours off the lots. So much for housing values further away from NYC.

I don't think it'll have as big of an impact as you think- the shipping costs may increase by 40%, but that's a relatively small portion of the overall cost of a gallon of gas. The overall gas price might go up 10-20 cents, but it's not going to jump 40%.
