Was wondering if anyone could help me to understand how on a property card for Ocean County (Toms River, Dover Twnship) which is completely inland can be charged for "Boat Moorage"? The property is surrounded by houses on the side and from behind. In from there is a road with houses on that side also. When the tax office was questioned they said "oh it doesn't really mean anything". If it doesn't mean anything and its not there - then it shouldn't be on the card. Can someone help me understand how you can be charged for such and fight it since its incorrect?

Also anyone else fighting their tax assesment? How do you find out what value land is of other similar properties? Was able to look up the 2008 values but not anyone else's to compare.

Thx so much!

You should be able to see assessments of any house in town, otherwise how could you build your case? In my town we're required to give five similar properties as evidence. And the boat mooring thing sounds fishy too. Keep going. Call the town assessor and talk to them.

This is not the first time I have seen this "boat mooring" thing. There have been many discrepencies regarding sq ft as well. Believe me..they all count. I am in the process of conducting tax appeals for many homeowners with the same situation. You have to be aware and speak up to correct these situations!Matthew NolanParkwest Property Appraisals732-292-1660

I believe the "tax card" is what's on file in the tax office with information pertaining to your property. You have to go there to see it.
