come on already! I get home from working all day and i wanna watch some baseball. I dont need to see an amputee and how she had to get her limbs chopped off because she used to smoke cigerates during the commercial breaks. it's disgusting and not what our tax dollars should be used towards.

its the year 2009. Everyone knows smoking is bad for you. Cut it out already. especially these "shock" commercials that are disguisting.

Agreed. I wish they would amputate her head and be done with it.

Ha. These commercials have been bringing down Mets games for three seasons. I believe these commercials exist because the states are obligated by the courts to use tobacco company settlement monies towards anti-smoking ad campaigns, thus the commercials.

I guess I've never seen that commercial- why did she have her fingers amputated? Sounds like a harsh way to quit smoking- try Nicorette next time....

she also is overweight, and probably has type 2 diabetes , did not control her sugar and never moved in her life. All this adds to getting your finger chopped off.

I agree, those ads are gross to the point of compromising the message because people look away. If I remember, there was a study done that showed that these ads weren't as effective because they were so vile, people would just change the channel for the 30 seconds and flip back.

This finger commercial is horrendous. Just as bad was the one from a few baseball seasons ago with the dude who had the hole in his throat. Enough already, we get the point. Did you ever notice they don't show anti-drinking commercials? Would that be because of the beer sponsors? If cigarette companies were still allowed to advertise on TV, it would be a whole different ballgame.

While we're on the subject of commercials interrupting sports broadcasts, I will indulge myself with a rant. I am a Yankee fan and often try to listen to the games on radio while I'm in my car. But I can no longer enjoy it. The incessant, interminable conveyor belt of commercials and PSA's that assault me from before the beginning of the pre-game to after the end of the post game has officially become sickening.

It used to be simple, listen to the game, and between the half-inning turn the dial to avoid the ads. But now they have made that impossible with the endless and unexpected "drop-ins" that can assault you at any moment. Every effing object in the broadcast booth is the "Official Toyota this, or official Pepsi that". Every effing moment is branded. John Sterling and Susyn Waldman constantly drone, inserting ad copy between every breath they take. Between pitches, between catches, between pitching changes, between farts.

I've had enough. I can't listen to it anymore, and now I begin to feel contempt at the beginning of each game. I dance in and out until the manager's interview, then completely dial away for the 1/2 hour of ads that preceed the first pitch. But the "drop-ins" are constant, obnoxious, and oppressive. There's simply no escape, other than avoiding the games entirely.

On days when my disposition leans towards impatience, I can no longer listen to the game at all. On days of benevolent reflection, I can tolerate the play-by-play for 15 minute stretches, after which I simply must alternate to music.

Sorry Yankees, you are my team and all, but enough is enough. I tune in to hear a baseball game, not hours of commercials with baseball sprinkled in as an afterthought.

-Marc
