I have to relocate and work in Union . I am looking for a great community, friendly and great school for my 12 year old. I am hearing good things about Chatham, New Providence. I do not want my commute to be too painful and I want to live in a safe community. Any suggestions?

Hillsdale, NJ r many other Pascack Valley area (Bergen County) towns. I don't bother "selling" people on it though, anymore, because I've found it doesn't matter, so I'm throwing it out there for you to investigate on your own.

There is no one great community in NJ. There are many so just pick one within reasonable driving distance to your job.
What you really have to watch out for are the crummy communities so you can avoid them.
Asking advise about the best community is like asking opinions about the best car to buy. Too many choices.

PDD: I thought I narrowed the options by referring to a reasonnable commute (45 mns max) ....and as far as I am concerned the Nissan Murano is the best car you could ever buy...

I think New Providence is great. Chatham is great too, if you can afford it and want top notch schools (but note they are getting overcrowded due to their high ratings and desirability of the town).
New Providence has a great town pool, and HS is rated really well. Berkeley Heights is the next town over and also very nice.

Cannot go wrong with the towns you are looking at unless money is an object
